My Top 5 Favorite Beauty Routine Tips

I personally don’t like spending hours getting ready to go somewhere. I end up getting
exhausted and grumpy and not in the mood to go anywhere. Surely I can’t be the only one who
feels this way right? Luckily I’ve picked up some tips and tricks that make my daily beauty
routine a lot easier and more tolerable. You didn’t ask for them but I’m giving them to you
anyway!

Baby Powder for Oily Roots
I have very thick, naturally curly hair and there’s nothing I dread more than blow drying it.
Ughhhhh. For this reason and the general health of my hair, I avoid washing and blow drying it more than once a week. I’m like a gremlin, DO NOT GET MY HAIR WET. When my roots start to feel oily I sprinkle on a little baby powder, rub it in, and brush out any excess. I also use a soft bristle brush to distribute the oils so I don’t get build up. I’ve tried a lot of dry shampoos, but baby powder works the best for me. It’s light in texture, inexpensive, smells nice, and adds a nice lift to my roots. Thumbs up.

Pink Foam Rollers for Easy Curls
I avoid heat styling whenever possible so that’s why I rely on my good old pink foam rollers. I’ve worn them since I was little and they always tamed my naturally curly hair into perfect little ringlets. A lot of people assume you only use these on wet hair, but I like to use mine on my dry hair to give me a nice curl touch up without using a curling iron.

Whipped Argan Oil
I loooove Argan oil, but I have to admit I’m not very good at using oils to moisturize my skin. I don’t know if I’m an idiot or what, but I never seem to apply the right amount. However, I got some WHIPPED argan, which has the texture of a regular body cream, and I love it! After I get out of the shower I immediately apply it to my face and body and it lasts all day. I also run whatever is left over on my hands through my hair. It helps keep my frizz in check! I like Josie Maran’s.

Cold Mist Humidifier
This isn’t really a beauty routine tip BUT hear me out. Dry air can cause a whole slew of skin problems, especially redness from dry skin. This means you need to spend more time trying to correct this with makeup and lotions blah blah blah. Annoying! I finally gave in and tried a humidifier and I love it. It has helped my skin tone and texture a ton, which means less time spent fussing with skin issues! Yayyy!

And finally…

A 10 Minute Makeup Routine
This has been the biggest game changer for me. I picked out my absolute must-haves for a
simple morning makeup routine and trained myself to complete it in less than 10 minutes. It’s nothing fancy or glam, but it works and gets me out the door. It consists of applying only the basics. For me it’s:
A light foundation. I like Naked Skin by Urban Decay.
Fill in brows. I like Ka-BROW by Benefit.
A little contouring on the cheekbones and highlight on the brow bone. I like NYX highlight & contouring palette for this.
A bit of blush. I’m loving Majorette by Benefit at the moment.
A quick swipe of liner. I use a sharp pencil to first draw a guide line because its easier to control, and then go over it with liquid liner.
A coat of Mascara. I like Rollerlash by Benefit.
And that’s it! If you have any great tips send them my way!

How I’m Coping with Holiday Chaos with Olay Eyes

You guys, am I the only one who feels like the holidays sprung up on us this year? This month is going by so quickly and I feel like there’s still so much to be done before Christmas! So far December has been full of get-togethers, cocktail party planning, and late night DIY projects. I am TIRED, my babies, but I live for this stuff and all of this just comes along with my love for the holidays.
Olay Eyes.jpgEven though I’m tired from all the fun holiday chaos, I don’t want to LOOK tired on the outside. That’s why I turned to the Olay Eyes collection for help and why I’m sharing this v important PSA with you.
Olay Eyes 2 (2).jpgThe bags under my eyes from the late night projects, the puffy eyes from crying to my favorite cheesy Christmas movies, and my droopy “too much cocktail testing” lids have all been remedied by the products in this line.
Olay Eyes (2).jpgAfter only a few days of using the Pro-Retinol Eye Treatment I noticed smoother skin and less fine lines around my eyes. A dab of the Ultimate Eye Cream over my lids in the morning smooths and hydrates my lids to the point where I haven’t even needed to use eye shadow primer anymore. Yes it’s that good!

The Illuminating Eye Cream is a miracle in a bottle. In combination with the Eye Lifting Serum it’s out of this world. I look like the most rested person ever when I use them together, even though I feel like a frantic old mess on some days. You feel me?
Olay Eyes (3).jpgNo lie last week while I was Christmas shopping I felt my eyes literally puffing up by the minute and the tiredness kicking in and then I remembered I brought my Olay Eyes Depuffing Roller with me and rolled it on right there in the store as I waited in line. No shame in my game. I instantly felt reenergized and by the time I left the store my eyes felt and looked nice and bright! I’m addicted to it. Pro tip: I put mine in the fridge for a couple of minutes for ultra soothing under eye action. ADDICTED.
Olay Eyes Depuffing Roller is my latest beauty addictionWell, this month doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down at all, but at least thanks to Olay Eyes I LOOK well rested! Have you tried any of these products yet? Get on it!

I have more fun projects, recipes, and holiday ideas coming your way so stay tuned!

This post was sponsored by Olay but all opinions and words are my own.

How to Clean Makeup Brushes feat. MUA Danielle Rutherford

I have a confession, you guys. I can be really lazy about cleaning my makeup brushes but I’m ready to stop being a nasty bitch and break the habit for the sake of my skin’s health and well-being! I turned to my buddy, NYC makeup artist Danielle Rutherford, to help me learn the best and easiest ways of easy brush bathing. Spoiler: The first two methods don’t even require special brush cleaner!

How to Clean Makeup Brushes

Danielle says,

Method One: Deep Clean with Baby Shampoo

  1. Buy yourself some baby shampoo, yes, baby shampoo! It’s super gentle and won’t harm your brushes.
  2. Dampen your brush with lukewarm water and dip it in a little bit of the shampoo.
  3. Swirl your brush around in the palm of your hand to loosen up the makeup and get all the hairs nice and clean. Rinse.
  4. Use a paper towel to pat off any excess water from the brush.
  5. Reshape the brush hairs with your fingers so when they dry, they will dry in the correct shape.
  6. Lay your brush on an angle. You want the brush hairs on a downward angle so water does not get into the base/shaft of the brush.
  7. Let dry and voila – clean brushes!

Method Two: Deep Clean and Condition with Dish Soap and Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Grab some dish soap (I suggest using a natural one) and EVOO!

  1. In a dish, mix 2 parts soap to 1 part oil
  2. Just like the first method, dampen your brush with lukewarm water and swirl it in your mixture.

Method Three: Spot Clean with a Brush Cleanser

  1. Get yourself a paper towel and pour some of your brush cleanser onto it.
  2. Swirl your dirty brush around in the cleanser until it start to swirl and look clean.
  3. Most brush cleansers will dry very quickly, which is why many makeup artists use them between clients.

Cleaning Your beautyblender

  1. Get your beautyblender wet, just like you would before using it, but don’t squeeze all the water out.
  2. Swirl your beautyblender around in the cleanser and rinse. Repeat until clean.
  3. Note: I have found that over time my beautyblender will get stains depending on the products used, so it’s normal if it still looks a little dirty after cleaning.

Thanks, Danielle! Check her out on Youtube and Facebook for the latest beauty buzz.

Necessary Holiday Survival Gear 2013

Holiday Survival Must-Haves

The holidays are crazy with shopping, parties, cooking, and all that good stuff. Every year I find myself with a handful of must-have items that help make life easier. Here are some of my current favorites. They make great stocking stuffers too!

Batiste

1. Batiste Dry Shampoo: Who has time to wash and blow-out their hair everyday when there is shopping to do and parties to go to? Batiste keeps your hair looking and feeling fresh and voluminous  between washes. I’ve tried a few other dry shampoos that left me looking like I was covered in wig powder. I was not a fan! This is, by far, the best dry shampoo I’ve tried and the only one I can stand. I’ve used it on 3rd and 4th day hair with success. Shake it up, spray it on, brush it through – you’re out the door. It comes in a variety of yummy scents and even comes in colors to disguise those stray grays! Definitely a must have time saver.

Skinny Girl Cami

2. Skinny Girl Everyday Cami: I love these things. Sometimes we need a little extra mid-section support but don’t feel like squeezing into a full body shaper. Am I right ladies? It’s called a cami but it’s really more like a tank, so there’s extra back and chest support too. Most of the time I don’t even wear a bra with it. It’s my favorite thing to wear under my winter sweaters. You know how you’re wearing a cute sweater and then you eat too much holiday goodies and you feel like your clothes are clinging to you? This is your remedy. It keeps everything feeling tight and right.

NYX Butter Gloss

3. NYX Butter Gloss: Winter chapped lips are the worrrrst. This medium coverage gloss keeps lips hydrated without making them too glossy. It feels creamy rather than sticky so it’s comfortable to wear all day. Paired with a matching lipliner, it gives really nice volume. It’s subtle enough to wear without any other makeup. My favorite shades are Tiramisu and Cherry Cheesecake.

Herban Essentials Wipes

4. Herban Essentials Wipes: It’s cold and flu season so everyone is grabbing for the hand sanitizer when there’s not a sink around. I’m grabbing for Herban Essentials Wipes. These antibacterial wipes are made with essential oils and smell AMAZING. I’m always worried about drying my hands out or the residues left by other wipes and sanitizers, but these don’t leave that gross sticky soapy residue like other hand wipes do. They’re versatile too. You can use them to clean your phone, remove makeup, repel bugs, and much much more. I keep a pack in my car and carry a couple around with me. They come in 8 different varieties so there’s something for everyone.

Foot Alignment Socks

5. Foot Alignment Socks: Ughhhh achy feet. Work, shop, bake, party. I think we’re on our feet a lot more during the holidays, and usually in our most uncomfortable (stylish) shoes. Nothing feels better than kicking those shoes off and putting our feet up. Want to know what makes it even better? These foot alignment socks. They’re designed to re-align your feet after wearing confining shoes all day, helping to prevent and remedy crooked toes and bunions. They come in 8 great colors and are a perfect gift for anyone you know that complains about foot pain.

Bobble

6. Water Bobble: I am so bad at drinking enough water and I’m not one of those people that can drink straight from the sink. Yuck. Bottled water get expensive and who wants to put all that plastic into the environment? After suffering the effects of dehydration far too many times, I found a solution that helps me stay hydrated anywhere, any time. It’s the Bobble! It has a built in carbon filter so you can refill at any sink and instantly get tasty, filtered water. The cap keeps the top clean and loop can be attached to a belt or used as an easy-carry handle. It’s also BPA free, and free of Phthalates and PVC.

Definitely check out these must-haves to help you through your holi-daze!
